MAG Review Roundup

The MAG reviews are piling up and they are pretty favorable. I think at times they nit pick too much but I might be slightly biased for the game (I edit a site called MAG Game Guide, if you didn't know).

My key takeaway though is that almost all the reviewers are sold on the game's potential. Almost unanimously they agree, this game is doing something different and is going about it in the right away. That ain't easy.

Battlefield Guys Take Dig At MAG

Give credit where credit is due. The Battlefield series was a pioneer in large online FPS multiplayer battles. It's been around since 2002 with Battlefield 1942 and has made some kick-ass games since.

But there's one thing they never did: create a game that supported 256-player battles. It's a mind-boggling task when you consider the technological and organizational infrastructure that are needed to allow that to happen.

Stuck At Work/School?

A bunch of new MAG videos up in our vid section.

The War Begins

For many of you who went at midnight to get your copy--we applaud your dedication--logging precious minutes early was worth the anticipation. The challenge of bringing everyone online at the same time was met with some interesting, and occassionally frustrating challenges, for a first day outing.

MAG’s inaugural day of play has come and gone.  The smoke and dust from grenades, rocket launchers, and assault rifles have settled.  The shrieks and cries of combat broken soldiers are now just echoes.  As gamers rest their thumbs, all that’s left are the “casualty reports.”

MAG Servers Go Boom

Remember the last beta period for MAG before its final release? The game hardly ran like a beta, it was a well-polished thing of beauty. But the servers were a different story. They were overwhelmed and players had a heck of a time connecting.

Zipper was quick to point out that this is what betas are for. They needed to test their server infrastructure. The problem would be fixed for release.

Release Day!

It's heeeeere. Let us know if you picked up your copy. And smooth sailing so far or any problems?

Destructoid Reviews MAG

I've got to admit, I groaned when I first saw that Destructoid posted their review of MAG. Since this is an online-only game they couldn't have possibly played the final version. They must be basing it on the beta, which had its problems that should--fingers crossed--be ironed out for tomorrow's release.

It Only Does 256 Players

Here's the new MAG/PS3 commerical that just started hitting airwaves. In addition to being funny stuff, it's also proof of what we already knew. Sony has a big incentive to tout this exclusive on their system.

By the way, my goal in life is to someday be a VP of First Person Shooter Relations.

MAG Collector's Edition Unboxing

The enthusiastic vlogger in the video above got his hands on the MAG Collector's Edition early. His unboxing reveals it includes:

-a tin case (to give your game extra protection I guess)
-a plastic sleeve (to protect the tin case)
-redemption code for extra armors (I wonder if they're any good or just make your character look better?)
-3 PS3 themes (because a snappy PS3 theme will make you popular)

Judging from his frothing, I also wonder if it came with a massive dose of caffeine that could give an elephant the shakes.

Is A MAG PS3 Bundle Coming?

If you don't have a PS3 or MAG, it might get easier for you to fix those problems. The French Amazon is showing off a PS3 Slim bundle that includes MAG for 349.95 Euros. (That's $492.80 U.S. by the way.)
